What You Should Know Before Your First Botox Appointment
- Botox is a neuromodulator. It interrupts the message sent by nerves to muscles, causing them to relax. Jeuveau is a modern anti-wrinkle treatment. It has been shown to be an effective alternative to Botox, which is no longer effective in some people.
- The more units you have, the less movement your facial muscles can make. This means your skin may stay wrinkle-free longer. Botox and Jeuveau can prevent early wrinkles and treat existing ones. Prior to your injection, we always do a full-face consultation. During this consultation we will ask you to smile, frown and raise your eyebrows so that we can ensure that the final result is natural-looking.
- Botox starts to work in 3 to 5 days, with outstanding results at two weeks and lasts for 3 to 4 months. Botox starts to work slowly and stops working slowly as well. Jeuveau starts to work much faster and can last in some people up to 5 months.
- The most common side effect of the treatment is bruising. We avoid going near large blood vessels, but everyone’s anatomy is different, and it is possible to hit a small one. If this happens, it will be small and should go away within one week.

Sit Up: Botox injections are administered into the superficial muscle of one or more areas. For the drug to work as efficiently as possible, it must be given time to fully absorb. Lying down too soon could create a risk of Botox migrating away from its target area. Lying down also increases the risk of bruising. Play it safe and stay upright for at least 4 hours after your treatment.
Wait 24 Hours to Exercise: If you exercise every day as a part of your general wellness routine, we suggest doing so before your Botox appointment and then waiting a full 24 hours for your next workout session. Depending on the type of exercise you tend to do, your provider may suggest holding off for a few days. Walking tends to be fine, so long as you don’t increase your heart rate too much. Doing so increases the risk of bruising. While exercising the body is not recommended, mild facial exercise is. After Botox injections, it can be advantageous to smile, frown, and raise your eyebrows to help the product integrate into the muscle.
Pass on the Cocktails: Around the time of your Botox session, it is advisable to switch to some of the tasty mocktail recipes found online. Alcoholic beverages increase the risk of bruising and should be avoided 24 hours before and 24 hours after injectable treatments.
Give the Face a Break: Getting Botox is often a good lesson in realizing just how much we touch our face. To prevent spreading the drug, it is necessary to avoid touching the face for about 3 days. You can wash your face but do so gently, without pressing. Avoid exfoliating scrubs, facial massages, and facials. Also avoid any other activities that will put pressure on your face such as bending over and tight-fitting hats or headbands.

How many injections will i receive?
Treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic is customized to your goals and needs. When you meet with your specialist, he or she will determine the appropriate treatment for any areas you wish to address, including moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. Remember, only BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved to treat all three of these areas.
For the crow’s feet area, your specialist will inject 3 areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This will be repeated on the muscle that frames the other eye.
For the frown lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into the muscles between your brows and in your forehead.
For the forehead lines area, your specialist will administer 5 injections into a muscle in your forehead.
What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?
Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Other possible side effects include: dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes; and allergic reactions. What exactlyis JEUVEAU® ( Prabotulinumtoxina-xvfs)?
You know those pesky little wrinkles between your eyebrows that won’t go away? Well, they’re called glabellar lines, also referred to as “frown lines” or “elevens.” Jeuveau® is a prescription injectable treatment that works to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in adults.
How does JEUVEAU® work?
When injected, Jeuveau® temporarily prevents your nerves from telling your facial muscles to flex. The result? In clinical trials, Jeuveau® was shown to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines.
What are the results with JEUVEAU®?
In clinical trials, Jeuveau® was shown to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines. In US studies, 68% and 70% of Jeuveau® patients had a 2-grade or better physician and patient-rated improvement in frown lines at Day 30. But that’s not all. In a study conducted in Europe and Canada, 54% of patients had visible results as early as 2 days after treatment.* And at 5 months after treatment, 38% of patients had visible results with Jeuveau® **

What's it like before & after treatment
If it’s your first time getting a treatment, you may be a little nervous and that’s okay! Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, erythema, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection.

What are the possible side effects of Jeuveau®?
No serious or drug-related adverse events were observed in the Jeuveau® studies. Jeuveau® may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks) after injection of Jeuveau®:
Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months.
Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice, trouble saying words clearly, loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing.
Jeuveau® can cause other serious side effects including:
Allergic reactions such as itching, rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, trouble breathing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness or feeling faint. Tell your healthcare provider or get emergency medical help right away if you develop wheezing or trouble breathing, or if you feel dizzy or faint.
Heart problems. Irregular heartbeat and heart attack that have caused death, have happened in some people who received botulinum toxin products.
Eye problems such as dry eye, reduced blinking, and corneal problems. Tell your healthcare provider if you develop eye pain or irritation, sensitivity to light, or changes in your vision.
The most common side effects of Jeuveau® include headache, eyelid drooping, upper respiratory infection, and increased white blood cell count.
