Obesity Rises, What You Can Do To Beat The Increase

Better policies for better lives has projected an increase in obesity rates of up to 45% in the US by 2030. The highest rate in comparison with other developed countries. In fact, overweight and obesity relate to a modern lifestyle, an increase in portions of nutritionless food, an influx of genetically modified products, and a drastic reduction in physical activity levels. In 2015-16, excess body weight affected 39.8% or about 93.3 million of US adults. Obesity has emerged as a global health epidermic and hit the US particulally hard amongst men and women, teens, young adults, and the elderly.

Obesity As A Health Risk

Although body fat serves as an energy store as well as a mechanical support for internal organs, obesity is a proven risk factor for chronic diseases. The most prevalent illnesses are heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of which are the leading causes of preventable, premature death. Body fat is also a depot of toxins and a carrier of byproducts of metabolism.

Excess Of Body Fat As An Aesthetic Concern

Excess of body fat is unhealthy. Also it makes people look older than their biological age. Overweight leads to some aesthetic issues like cellulite, double chin,  “buffalo hump”, enlarged abdomen and lymphedema. Moreover, fat stored in saddlebags, inner thighs, knees and abdomen is resistant to diet and exercises. Often, it contributes to the development of chronic inflammation, fibrosis, and poor blood circulation in these areas.  As a result, people experience pain, edema, depression, and other health issues.

How To Asses Fat

You can use the waist circumferences to asses abdominal fat content. However, Body Mass Index (BMI) is a fairly decent gauge of body fat. A reliable way to determine wether you have too much body fat is to calculate the ratio of your weight to height squared. Check out your BMI, click here
